Character Information

Callsign(s) Liberty
Pronouns She/Her
Heritage/Background During the Exodus, most country borders dissolved into obscurity. When Orin's parents drifted into Burrow station with other refugees, even their recent past was a chequered history or temporary jobs and stations. She knows her name is Japenese but her ancestors long ago clung to survival over heritage.
Age 25

Physical Appearance

Physical Description Orin Takeda is clearly a pilot. At 5ft 4 inches the 25 year old has got the short hair and tanned skin of someone who spends their days in cockpits, where lead lined glass is not enough to stop all solar radiation from reaching her. Her flightsuit fits her like a glove although it has seen better days. Her holster belt holds a few essentials, such as her pistol and her short sword as well as a small repair kit and emergency respirator. Around her neck is a black iron talisman, marking her as one of the Ironsworn.
Distinguishing Features The most obvious feature of Orin however is her implant. The cochlear device that is attached to left ear extends throughout the side of her head, with subdermal wiring going across her jaw. Her left eye is her own but has a cybernetic overlay, linked to a micro-projector that overlays a miniature HUD over the eye. In order to hide, or perhaps reclaim some of the body modification, the dermal wiring is covered over with bio-luminescent tattoos that go from her neck up towards the implant.

Orin's speech is a little unusual. Though she learned to talk before going deaf and the implant lets her modulate her volume again, the augmentation made her vocal chords tighter and her voice comes out clipped and a little raspy. Whenever possible she prefers to sign. The implant links to her gloves that translates her signing into a computer generated voice so she can be understood. When her hands are full with piloting her commands are often short and to the point.

The cochlear implant in Orin's head is a unique augment, the combination of a talented rigger using some proprietary tech they normally wouldn't have access to. Most of the underlying systems were originally used for weapons and surveillance. Its primary role was to detect sounds and jack directly into her damaged ears so she could hear. The sensitive apparatus had a number of additional benefits. Orin can use it as a limited sonar, overlaying a diagram onto her HUD. Certain saved noises also can be detected and alert her even if they're faint or distant. If someone cocks a pistol, the implant will tell her.

The main computer works to provide translation for her signing, but Orin has discovered the speech program can do more. It can read lips from a distance and project it as text across the HUD. In her recent forays as an Ironsworn and pilot for hire, Orin is still discovering all the various ways she can configure the implant to give her an edge.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Orin to strangers is known merely as "the pilot." She uses her skill and position as a fallback, thinking it gives her legitimacy. She was never that talkative but in the last few years she's learned to pick her words carefully and listen more, finding that saying little actually means people pay attention to what she says.
To those that get beyond acquaintances they see a lot more of Orin's nature. She has a very loyal and protective streak, when there are people she values around her she wants them to be safe. But she also doesn't think too far ahead, her reactions are fast and she's used to using them. When a reckless decisions puts people in danger, she feels the guilt heavily. One of her biggest triggers is being told she can't do something.

History

Background Vow Discover the fate of Kira Weaver...

Orin's mentor confided in her that she had a daughter who skipped out into the 'verse years ago. She always wanted to know what became of her, and if possible that she was safe.
Crew Connections - Tinker: When Orin needed some repairs, she sought out a rumoured genius mechanic. And turning up in a tricked out fighter was a good change of pace from the usual Junkers Tinker has worked on.
- Spy: Qulmira stopped Orin from taking a job that would have ended badly in a double cross. It cemented Orin's faith in her powers.
- Crash: I purchased some nav coordinates to push a courier run and make a delivery on time.
- Old Man Redbeard: After losing the Venture, Redbeard used Orin's fighter for some odd jobs as he tried to get back on his feet. Orin knows there's something not right there, but she doesn't know the extent of his trauma or visions.

Assets

Asset #1 PATH

ACE (1/3)

[X] When you FACE DANGER or REACT UNDER FIRE by guiding your vehicle through a hazard or out of harm’s way, add +1 and take +1 momentum on a hit.

[O] When you GAIN GROUND by maneuvering your vehicle against a foe, add +1. If you score a strong hit with a 4, 5, or 6 on the action die, you may put yourself in firing position. If you do, set aside the action die or note its value. If you or an ally STRIKE using the vehicle’s weapons, preset your action die with that value. This persists until you fail to score a strong hit on that move, or until you make another move which changes your vehicle’s position.

[O} When you must ENDURE STRESS while piloting a vehicle, you may roll +integrity. If you do, take +1 momentum on a strong hit.
